Acquisition Raises Grid IQ and Halves Pay-back Period

Demand Response Patent Forecast®

November 13, 2020

Fluence, an energy storage joint venture between Siemens and AES based in Arlington, Virginia, has acquired San Francisco-based Advanced Microgrid Solutions (AMS), a provider of AI-powered software for advanced price forecasting, portfolio optimization, and market bidding to optimize revenue in the energy storage and generation market. The merger of Fluence’s experience operating energy storage in the field with AMS’ ability to optimize market participation will give owners the ability to reduce the payback period of their energy storage investments from more than six years to as little as three years.  That means internal ROI could jump from 10% to as much as 25-30%. This should spur more investment in wind, solar, and energy storage.

Siemens appears to have slowed down its Demand Response patent filings, as shown on the Magic Number® Demand Response Patent Forecast®,  presumably evolving into the next phase of energy management. Contact us today for a free trial of the Magic Number Patent Forecast.
