V2X Breaks Into Mainstream Via Volkswagen Golf

Z-ARCHIVE-V2X Communication Patent Forecast®

November 14, 2019

Surrounding drivers with fast, reliable sensing and automated awareness of the environment stemming from their vehicles may be closer than we think. Utilizing NXP processor technology, Volkswagen's eighth model of their Golf hatchback has standardized vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication- making them the first to integrate this technology on a high-volume, standard car. In contrast to more specified V2X models from different manufacturers, this version is intended to depend on a wireless connection instead of cellular data. This yields an advantage in the form of better accuracy when sensing (through tunnels or various landscapes, which could hinder cellular signal, and it's free as opposed to data usage). While this version is supplementary to other safety sensing features, it is still a marked stride towards a smarter driving experience.
