1. A method of increasing a cannabinoid level in a Cannabis sativa plant, comprising: (8) (1)

genetically modifying the Cannabis sativa plant with a genetic modification, wherein the genetic modification induces the Cannabis sativa plant to overexpress a gene controlling the expression of a cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) synthase, wherein the CBDA synthase catalyzes an increased synthesis of cannabigerolic acid to cannabidiolic acid, and wherein the cannabidiolic acid is converted into an increased cannabinoid level in the plant, wherein the cannabinoid is a compound having the structure:

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the non-genetically modified Cannabis sativa plant is classified as a hemp plant. (0)

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the non-genetically modified Cannabis sativa plant is classified as a marijuana plant. (0)

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the cannabinoid is an isolated enantiomer having the structure: (0)

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the cannabinoid is an isolated enantiomer having the structure: (0)

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the cannabinoid is a racemic mixture of enantiomers having the structures: (0)

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the increased cannabinoid level of the genetically modified Cannabis sativa plant is about 5-20% by weight. (0)

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the increased cannabinoid level of the genetically modified Cannabis sativa plant is about 25-30% by weight. (0)
