1. A method for playing second content during a break of unknown duration after playing first content, the method comprising: (7) (6)

playing first content;

receiving, via in-band signaling, information indicative of a break of unknown duration;

playing second content;

detecting, via out-of-band signaling, when the playing of the second content is complete;

and

responsive to the detection, playing third content.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising: (1) (5)

determining whether the third content is available;

and

responsive to determining that the third content is available, delaying the playing of the third content until after the playing of an entirety of the second content,

wherein the second content is representative of the break of unknown duration, and

wherein the third content is a new object or resource representative of a continuation of the first content.

17. The method of claim 2, wherein determining whether the third content is available further comprises: (0) (1)

selecting a segment of the first content to stream based on a comparison of a property associated with the selected segment and the playing of the first content.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the selecting of the segment comprises: (1) (1)

polling for an indication of time-sensitive content made available for streaming; and

interrupting the playing of the first or second content to stream the time-sensitive content.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein interrupting the playing of the second content comprises interrupting the second content upon completion of a secondary content item of the second content. (0)

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the method is performed at least in part by a component associated with a web browser on a client device. (1) (0)

18. A client device configured to play second content during a break of unknown duration after playing first content, the client device comprising: (1) (3)

a receiver configured to receive, via in-band signaling, (i) a video of first content and (ii) information indicative of a break of unknown duration from a content delivery network;

a media player, in communication with the receiver, configured to: play first content in a web browser;

play second content; and

detect, via out-of-band signaling, when the playing of the second content is complete,

wherein the web browser, responsive to the detection, instructs the media player to play third content.

19. The client device of claim 18, wherein the media player is further configured to: (1) (5)

determine whether the third content is available;

and

responsive to determining that the third content is available, delay the playing of the third content until after the playing of an entirety of the second content,

wherein the second content is representative of the break of unknown duration, and

wherein the third content is a new object or resource representative of a continuation of the first content.

20. The client device of claim 19, wherein a component of the web browser is configured to: (0) (1)
