1. A method for responding to a voice activated request, comprising: (5) (6)

receiving a speech input request from a smart speaker requesting energy management data associated with energy consumption at a premises of the smart speaker;

generating a voice service request comprising a first query for a first data source, the first query comprising a request for the energy management data;

communicating the first query to the first data source;

receiving a first response to the first query from the first data source;

generating an audible speech output in response to the speech input request based on the first response to the first query; and

transmitting the audible speech output to the smart speaker, wherein the smart speaker is configured to audibly transmit the audible speech output.

2. The method of claim 1, comprising: (1) (3)

generating a second query of the voice service request, wherein the second query comprises a request for energy management data from a second data source;

communicating the second query to the second data source; and

receiving a second response to the second query from the second data source, wherein the audible speech output is generated based on the first response and the second response.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first data source is a metering device and the second data source is a head end system associated with the metering device. (0)

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the first data source is a head end system of a utility provider, and the energy management data comprises data associated with the energy consumption at the premises of the smart speaker over a specified time period. (1) (0)

6. The method of claim 1, wherein generating the audible speech output comprises: (0) (2)

7. The method of claim 1, wherein generating the voice service request comprises: (0) (2)

8. The method of claim 1, comprising: (1) (1)

calculating a utility bill based on resource consumption information and account information received from the first response, wherein the audible speech output comprises an audible representation of the utility bill.

9. The method of claim 8, comprising: (0) (6)

receiving an additional speech input request from the smart speaker;

generating an additional voice service request comprising a payment submission in response to the audible speech output;

communicating the payment submission to a payment servicing company;

receiving an additional response from the payment servicing company indicating successful payment of the utility bill;

generating an additional audible speech output in response to the additional speech input request based on an indication of the successful payment of the utility bill; and

transmitting the additional audible speech output to the smart speaker.

10. A device located at a consumption premises, comprising: (5) (2)

a meter comprising: a metrology module configured to measure consumption of a resource;

a memory configured to store data associated with the metrology module; and

a communications module configured to communicate with other devices and with a head end system in a metering device network using a first networking protocol; and

a processing unit configured to communicate with a voice service using a second networking protocol, wherein the meter and the processing unit are connected using a link internal to the device.

The device of claim 10, wherein the processing unit is configured to receive a voice service request from the voice service indicative of a verbal request of a user received at the voice service from a smart speaker, and wherein the processing unit is configured to transmit at least a portion of the data associated with the memory to the voice service in response to the voice service request. 12. The device of claim 10, wherein the processing unit communicates with the voice service across a proxy server. (1) (0)

15. The device of claim 10, wherein the communications module is configured to send a request for account information to the head end system via the metering device network and to receive the account information from the head end system via the metering device network. (1) (0)

17. The device of claim 10, wherein the metering device network comprises a wireless mesh network. (0)

18. A method for responding to a voice activated request, comprising: (2) (6)

receiving a speech input request from a smart speaker;

generating a voice service request based on the speech input request, wherein the voice service request comprises a query for an energy consumption data source;

communicating the query to the energy consumption data source;

receiving a response to the query from the energy consumption data source;

generating an audible speech output in response to the speech input request based on the response to the query; and

transmitting the audible speech output to the smart speaker, wherein the smart speaker is configured to audibly transmit the audible speech output.

19. The method of claim 18, further comprising: (0) (4)

generating an additional voice service request based on the speech input request, wherein the additional voice service request comprises an additional query for an energy account data source;

communicating the additional query to the energy account data source;

receiving a response to the additional query from the energy account data source; and

generating the audible speech output based on the response to the query and the response to the additional query.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the energy consumption data source comprises a metering device, an internet of things device, a payment services company, a utility provider, or any combination thereof. (0)
