1. A method of automatic storage system configuration for mediation services, the method comprising: (11) (3)

determining that a particular storage system in a network of storage systems is not configured with a service handle of a mediation service to request mediation from a mediation target for mediation between storage systems synchronously replicating a dataset;

requesting, by the particular storage system from a configuration service, configuration information indicating one or more service handles for a mediation service; and

configuring, in dependence upon the one or more service handles received from the configuration service, a mediation handler to communicate with the mediation service responsive to detecting a communication fault with one of the storage systems.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising: (0) (1)

3. The method of claim 1, wherein determining that the particular storage system of the storage systems is not configured to request mediation from a mediation target is performed in response to initiating synchronous replication of the dataset among the storage systems. (0)

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the configuration service operates within a third party computing environment hosted independent of the network of storage systems. (0)

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the mediation service is configured by a third party providing the configuration service hosted independent of the network of storage systems. (0)

The method of claim 1, wherein, prior to shipment of the particular storage system, the particular storage system is preconfigured by a vendor of the particular storage system with the address of the configuration service to request the configuration information from the configuration service. (0)

The method of claim 1, wherein each of (a) determining that a particular storage system of the storage systems is not configured to request mediation from a mediation target for mediating between the storage systems; (b) requesting, by the particular storage system from a configuration service, configuration information indicating one or more service handles for a mediation service; and (c) configuring, in dependence upon the one or more service handles received from the configuration service, a mediation handler to communicate with the mediation service responsive to detecting a communication fault with another storage system, are performed without intervention or prompting from a user. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein each of the storage systems receives a same one or more service handles for the mediation service. (0)

11. The method of claim 1, wherein a mediation service handle comprises a contact address for the mediation service over a wide area network. (0)

The method of claim 1, wherein, prior to shipment of the particular storage system, the particular storage system is preconfigured by a vendor of the particular storage system to store a service handle for the mediation handler to request mediation from the mediation service and preconfigured to generate the instance of the key. (0)

An apparatus for automatic storage system configuration for mediation services, the apparatus comprising a computer processor, a computer memory operatively coupled to the computer processor, the computer memory having disposed within it computer program instructions that, when executed by the computer processor, cause the apparatus to carry out the steps of: (6) (3)

requesting, by the particular storage system from a configuration service, configuration information indicating one or more service handles for a mediation service; and

14. The apparatus of claim 13, further comprising computer program instructions that, when executed by the computer processor, cause the apparatus to carry out the steps of: (0) (1)

15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein determining that the particular storage system of the storage systems is not configured to request mediation from a mediation target is performed in response to initiating synchronous replication of the dataset among the storage systems. (0)

16. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the configuration service operates within a third party computing environment hosted independent of the network of storage systems. (0)

17. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the mediation service is configured by a third party providing the configuration service hosted independent of the network of storage systems. (0)

The apparatus of claim 13, wherein, prior to shipment of the particular storage system, the particular storage system is preconfigured by a vendor of the particular storage system with the address of the configuration service to request the configuration information from the configuration service. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein each of (a) determining that a particular storage system of the storage systems is not configured to request mediation from a mediation target for mediating between the storage systems; (b) requesting, by the particular storage system from a configuration service, configuration information indicating one or more service handles for a mediation service; and (c) configuring, in dependence upon the one or more service handles received from the configuration service, a mediation handler to communicate with the mediation service responsive to detecting a communication fault with another storage system, are performed without intervention or prompting from a user.
