The Securities Tokenization sector is still a very new industry and technology space. With few patents overall and a great long-term outlook, the sector is filled with opportunity for companies in the industry or new companies looking to join. However, there are categories of tokenization that are more open than others. Previously, the primary focus of insights has been on the white space in the Physical Assets category of the sector, which is still very open. The focus of this insight is the true hidden gem of Tokenization at the moment, Debt Securities. While the Financial category of the sector is more populated than Physical Assets, and has certainly received an uptick of patent applications recently, the Debt Securities subcategory is surprisingly empty.
In the past five years, Debt Securities only has one (1) patent issued to an individual inventor. Many of the recent patent documents were filed by Strong Force, which is a non-practicing entity. There is also not much movement in the market side yet for Debt Securities, despite it being talked about in the same circles as stock tokenization. While there is still plenty of time to stake a claim in any part of the tokenization sector, Debt Securities appears to be flying under everybody's radar and would be an excellent space to pursue with little competition to speak of.
