Bext has carved out a corner in the food traceability and conscientiousness movement by providing a way to track coffee over the blockchain from harvest to consumer. In many countries, obtaining capital to purchase seeds and to even begin planting requires large loans, and the process is full of middlemen. Bext’s service routes around these middlemen, allowing farmers to sell tokens backed by the potential value of their harvest. Not only do the farmers gain from cutting out these extra costs, but consumers gain as well because the blockchain tracks the coffee’s source. Bext is set to expand into other commodities as well; their website says that “coffee is just the beginning.”
