1 Independent Claim

  • 1. A tangible, non-transitory, machine-readable medium storing instructions that when executed by one or more processors effectuate operations comprising: obtaining, with one or more processors, a distributed-application address of a distributed handoff application, wherein: the distributed-application address is a cryptographic hash value that uniquely identifies the distributed handoff application among a plurality of distributed applications executable on peer nodes of a peer-to-peer network of computing devices; the distributed handoff application is accessible via one or more of the peer nodes identified by entries in a distributed hash table linked, directly or indirectly, via the distributed hash table, to a key value in the distributed hash table corresponding to the distributed-application address; the distributed handoff application executes on one or more peer nodes of the peer-to-peer network of computing devices; and the distributed handoff application comprises a distributed-handoff application program interface (API) by which handoff from one wireless base station to another wireless base station is coordinated at least in part by at least some of the peer nodes of the peer-to-peer network; calling, with one or more processors, the distributed-handoff API with a request to handoff a current wireless data session between a first base station and a mobile computing device to another base station, wherein: the request causes the distributed handoff application to determine one or more parameters of a handoff of the wireless data session from the first base station to a second base station, such that, after the handoff, the mobile computing device continues the wireless data session with the second base station; the determination causes the one or more parameters of the handoff of the wireless data session to be sent to both the mobile computing device and the second base station; and the determination causes a record of the second base station receiving the handoff to be stored in a tamper-evident, distributed ledger encoding records of a plurality of previous handoffs in a directed acyclic graph of cryptographic hash pointers; and receiving, with one or more processors, a result of the distributed-handoff API request and, in response, at least partially effectuating the handoff of the wireless data session from the first base station to the second base station.
