Verizon has ventured into edge processing with its Intelligent Edge Network (iEN) that uses Verizon's own commercial hardware to support the cloud. The company's approach to reducing latency is to consolidate geographic network range in order to remove "hops" or catches in data transfer from one center to a device. Verizon tested a 5G edge network in early 2019. Its patents include resiliency methods and open content delivery networks.
