In April 2015, IBM launched IBM Watson Health and the Watson Health Cloud platform to discover and surface insights from the massive amount of personal health data being created and shared daily. To assist in this endeavor, IBM acquired several health-related companies: Phytel, Explorys, Merge Healthcare Solutions and Truven Healthcare Analytics. IBM’s health cloud now houses one of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of health-related data, representing an aggregate of more than 300 million patient lives acquired from Truven, Explorys and Phytel.
