Nutrisystem®, a Tivity Health® brand, launched a new biodegradable cooler. The cooler is allegedly 92% biodegradable over a 4 year period. This is part of Nutrisystem's commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its products. Additionally, Nutrisystem is cutting down on unnecessary packaging to reduce waste. Nutrisystem is limiting its printed materials and supplying nutritional information via its Numi® app. This could be a trend moving forward for companies to put less information on their label and allow users to access information via a mobile application or a similar method, thereby cutting down on the environmental impact of packaging while providing access to more information. Currently, the MyFitnessPal application allows for scanning of barcodes and gives some nutritional information if the data is stored in their database.
Nutrisystem does not appear to have any published patent applications nor has there been any announcement of a partnership, so there is minimal information relating to the development of the biodegradable cooler. Nutrisystem may have a nonpublished patent application or could be keeping its technology under wraps.
