Neuralink Announces New Brain Activity Monitor Using Pigs

AI Biotech/Diagnostics: Other Innovation Patent Forecast®

September 3, 2020

Neuralink, the neurotechnology company founded by billionaire-entrepreneur Elon Musk, announced last week that they had developed a brain-activity monitor capable of monitoring brain activity of a pig in real time. The claimed technology supposedly is one of the first steps necessary to treat many neurological issues including spinal cord injuries, autism, anxiety, and pain. The company, founded in 2017, is focused on the research and development of technology that can be used to better understand how the brain works, and building technology that communicates with the brain.

Neuralink is just one of Elon's many endeavors, and has not been in the news nearly as much as Tesla or SpaceX has. Nonetheless, the company appears to be actively working behind the scenes on developing new neurotechnologies. To date, Neuralink does not have any patents or applications in the AI Biotech/Diagnostics sector. The likely explanation for the lack of patent activity for Neuralink is that the company has decided to operate in "stealthmode." This means that the company has decided to hold off on filing applications, or that they have filed a nonpublication request. Either way, with the company coming into the recent spotlight, and the other success that companies under Elon's control have had, it is highly likely that we will be seeing Neuralink's name starting to show up in the AI Biotech/Diagnostics sector in the not so distant future.
