Tailtrax, the creator of an app that helps dog owners and healthcare providers keep track of their pets' family history and medical records, is moving to incorporate blockchain technology into their record system. The company's most recently published patent application was filed at the end of 2019 and teaches a distributed ledger that implements blockchain technology in order to share "non-human animal data" among a plurality of users including caregivers, owners, and breeders. The data can include information such as a dog's breed, medical records, personality traits, and more. Users can query records to find out if certain diseases are common in their pet's family tree, which can be helpful for prevention as well as diagnosis.

The Tailtrax app depends on a large network of users uploading information about their dogs to create a comprehensive and helpful database; thus, secure methods for aggregating and sharing data are important for the app's development. This is Tailtrax's first published patent application in cryptocurrency and the only one in the sector aimed specifically at non-human medical data, but you can view other interesting uses of blockchain technology on Magic Number's Cryptocurrency: Industrial Applications patent radian
