Edge Computing Patent Forecast®

May 7, 2020

This week, IBM announced new services which leverage their multicloud environments with their subsidiary Red Hat's open source technology. The new offerings will run on Red Hat Openshift, which runs from the data center to multiple clouds to the edge.

IBM's new offerings include:

  • IBM Edge Application Manager – an autonomous management solution which enables AI, analytics, and IoT workloads to be deployed and remotely managed, providing insight at scale. A single administrator can simultaneously manage up to 10,000 edge nodes.
  • IBM Telco Network Cloud Manager – provides automation capabilities for virtual and container network functions. Will provide greater agility and efficiency for telecommunications companies as 5G adoption expands.
  • An improved portfolio of edge-enabled applications and services, including  IBM Asset Optimization, IBM Production Optimization, IBM Visual Insights, IBM Maximo Worker Insights, IBM Connected Manufacturing, and IBM Visual Inspector.
  • A new dedicated IBM Services team for edge computing and the telecommunications network cloud.

Both Red Hat and IBM have significant IP in the edge computing space, so more new offerings are expected to be announced.
