Google and Mayo Clinic have announced a ten year partnership which will accomplish much more than just hosting Mayo's data on Google's Cloud. On one hand, the partnership will enable Mayo to increase data-driven medical innovation, as Google has recognized the impact that technology will have on health care over the next 10+ years. The pair also plans to create machine-learning modules and AI-based digital diagnostics offerings with the partnership. Both companies have a small amount of IP in the AI-biotech space, but that is not what makes this partnership special. Mayo sees over 1.2 million patients each year as the #1 hospital in the country and currently has over 12,500 active human research studies, which generates a massive amount of data to train and be analyzed by machine-learning models.
