What the US can learn from Uruguay

Z-ARCHIVE-Cannabis Patent Forecast®

April 22, 2019

Uruguay is the pioneer in the cannabis sector since they were the first country to legalize recreational cannabis in December of 2013. But five years later, they are running into some serious issues. It begins with pharmacies being the only approved dispensaries for cannabis which has led to absurd wait times since only 17 pharmacies are approved to do so. Banks only approve of cash purchases for cannabis and will not allow the use of credit, which has caused many pharmacies to stay clear of the cannabis industry. To top it, pharmacists only make 20% of the purchase price back, which leaves little incentive for others to begin selling the now legal plant. If the US can learn one thing from Uruguay, it is that the financial policies surrounding cannabis will need major reform.
