Saft Group, a French multinational battery energy storage company owned by the oil & gas company Total, is buying Go Electric, which develops customer-side energy meter solutions and services. Go Electric, headquartered in Anderson, Indiana, offers micro grid and uninterruptible power system technology that automatically and instantly synchronizes, manages, and optimizes multiple AC and DC power sources. Saft Group, acquired by Total in 2016, designs, develops and manufactures batteries for transport, industry and defense. Saft Group has four issued patents for battery charge equalization and has renewed development in this technology, as shown by it two 2019 application publications.
A battery charge equalizer provides individual cell charging in multi-cell battery strings in order to maintain all the cells at the same charge. Keeping all the cells in a multi-cell string at the same charge state maximizes the battery's life and performance. Equalization techniques require electrical circuitry to achieve cell monitoring and balancing.
