New images of the BMW i4 electric car have been leaked and it looks like a new style generation. It's expected to have up to 370 mile range, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options, and acceleration from 0-100 km/hr in just over four seconds. Of course, all that range and speed needs some fancy circuitry to make those batteries perform, and BMW is hotly pursuing this. BMW has had two patents issue in Charge Equalization since it entered the space in 2012, and the company shows continued interest in protecting this technology.
A battery charge equalizer provides individual cell charging in multi-cell battery strings in order to maintain all the cells at the same charge. Keeping all the cells in a multi-cell string at the same charge state maximizes the battery's life and performance. Equalization techniques require electrical circuitry to achieve cell monitoring and balancing.
