Developer proposes a 349-mile underground transmission line in the Midwest

Direct Connect Development Co. stated that it wants to build an underground transmission line from rural Iowa to Chicago for carrying wind energy. The 2,100-megawatt high-voltage transmission line would stretch 349 miles and cost around $2.5 billion. Although the project could be operational by 2024, it will first have to get permits from local, state, and federal agencies.
