$42.2 million of solar

Solar Thin Film Photovoltaics Patent Forecast®

July 18, 2019

Oxford PV secured $42.2 million of funding for a 200 MW heterojunction (HJT) solar cell line from Meyer Burger to start production of perovskite-silicon tandem cells next year in Germany. This investment comes after its $38.5 million Series D funding round in March 2019, and the company said it is now able to "move into manufacturing and accelerate market introduction."

Oxford PV has a patent portfolio that includes both documents that focus on perovskite solar cells and documents that are more generalized, making them pertinent to the Thin Film Photovoltaics sector. One of its applications was published last week, directed to a photovoltaic device with a light absorbing photoactive layer and conductive layers on opposite sides. Its ongoing patent activity suggests that Oxford PV may expand its market activity from Europe to the US in the near future.
