Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University have used novel nanofabrication techniques to build micro-robots made from silicon and powered by solar cells. A 4-in. silicon wafer produces a million of these robots, and each of the robots' four legs is less than 100 atoms thick. These numerous, solar-powered micro-robots are reminiscent of the grey goo portrayed in Michael Crichton's Prey.
