First Solar of Tempe, AZ, and private asset management firm Capital Dynamics announced the completion and commercial operation of the 280MWAC California Flats Solar Project, located on about 2900 acres near the borders of San Luis Obispo and Monterey County. First Solar, a major patent holder in the Thin Film Photovoltaics sector, makes thin-film photovoltaic modules based on cadmium telluride (CdTe) as well as providing engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) services. Their rate of patent application slowed down after 2016, with no applications filed in 2017 and only a single application filed in 2018, with priority to 2011. It looks like First Solar's development process may have slowed.
