PoKos Communications, a New Mexico-based start-up, filed U.S. Patent Publication No. 20200302452, which published this week, describing a data exchange mechanism between mobile device users, which allows for notifications when a user as come into contact with another user who may be at risk of infection. PoKos Communications boasts this as a use case for what it calls Sixth-Sense Technology, which aims to connect all devices into a private and anonymous network.
The title of PoKos Communications' application states that it seeks to provide a system and method for government and health agencies to help reduce coronavirus cases. However, the application does not specify what sort of involvement the government or health agencies may have in rolling out or maintaining the shared contact tracing network.
