China is planning on establishing a nationwide smart power grid, employing technologies including 5G and artificial intelligence (AI). The plan has been outlined by the State Grid Corporation, the largest utility company in China.
Nicknamed the "Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things," the project would link the Internet with the nation's electricity supply. An initial phase-completion date has been set for 2021, with a final-phase completion date of 2024. This falls in line with China's predicted $77.6 billion spending for smart grid infrastructure over the next ten years.
