General Electric (GE) just announced the opening of its new smart grid lab in Qatar focusing on training individuals in the areas of cybersecurity, smart cities, integration of renewable energy, energy management systems, distribution grid management systems, communication and telemetry, smart metering, substation digitization, grid asset life performance management systems, and grid consulting.
The new smart grid lab builds upon the over 40-year partnership with GE in Qatar. This partnership has previously led to the development of the GE Advanced Technology Research Center (GEATRC), a hub for education, technical training, and new product initiatives.
The development of this new lab may represent a move to increase their market share by partnering with a highly-developing country.
