Honda has partnered with American Electric Power (AEP) to find new uses for the car manufacturer's used EV batteries. AEP will study how to best integrate the old batteries into the electric grid and share the data with Honda so that they can jointly develop new technology and industry standards for EV grid integration. Earlier this month, we had anticipated partnerships between energy companies and automobile manufacturers given the dynamic patent activity by both industries. Since Honda has a number of patent documents in the Energy Financial Settlement sector relating to EV charging, perhaps it entered into this partnership in order to position itself as a leader in the transition to this emerging mobility system.
