Accenture, a global management consulting firm, recently reported that a major hurdle to the electric vehicle transition is the lack of easy charging options, as owners must either install residential charging stations or search for available public ones. The firm concluded that utilities are uniquely positioned to solve and profit from this issue, given that this is ultimately a problem of the energy market. There are more than 20 patent documents directed to EV charging published in 2019 alone, with half of them by energy solution companies such as Causam and GridPoint, and the other half by car manufacturers such as Hyundai and Honda. Does this point to future partnerships between energy solutions companies and automobile manufacturers?
