GE is helping to develop West Africa's energy systems

Energy Financial Settlements Patent Forecast®

April 11, 2019

General Electric has secured multiple contracts to improve the energy systems in Benin and Cote d'Ivoire. Benin, a country that imports 85% of its energy from neighboring countries, will be supplied with the first Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), which includes adaptive algorithms and predictive analytics to help utilities operate the grid more efficiently and enable automation. Cote d'Ivoire will have three of its substations upgraded, which will help mitigate total energy losses and provide the reliability needed to limit the total unavailability of these critical substations. GE has numerous patents that focus on optimizing energy systems, which indicates how well-equipped the company is to help reduce energy inefficiencies in West Africa. The company has been operating in Africa for over a century, and these new contracts reflect its commitment to the development of African countries and its vision that securing reliable access to energy is crucial.
