Johnson Controls recently released a new version of its SMART Equipment Control Firmware that incorporates Continuous Reset Single Zone Control. The CRSZ Control operates with the minimum fan speed needed to maximize energy savings and comfort by using an algorithm that intakes the percentage of demand for cooling and sensor data. This new technology is not too surprising given the company's history of innovating in this space. In fact, patent data show that Johnson Controls has been optimizing building energy usage for more than a decade. Its recent patent applications, in particular, indicate that the company is optimizing economic load demand response (ELDR) and using a stochastic optimizer configured to obtain representative loads and rates for the buildings.
