Sleep Assistance Device

A sleep assistance device is provided-for, including a contactless biometric sensor, a processor, memory, and a speaker. The processor detects a user's sleep state by reading signals from the contactless biometric sensor. The processor may then initiate a wind-down routine upon detecting a sleep-readiness state, including playing relaxing sounds or playing a respiration entrainment sound. The processor may also play noise-masking sounds upon detecting that a user has fallen asleep and seamlessly transition between the sounds played during the wind-down routine and the noise-masking sounds.

4 Independent Claims

  • 1. A sleep assistance device comprising: a housing; a contactless biometric sensor for determining at least one of a heart rate, a respiratory rate, a presence of a user, or movement of the user; a processor; a memory; and a speaker; wherein said processor is configured to detect the user's sleep state by reading signals from said contactless biometric sensor based on at least one of a detected change in heartrate, body movement, respiration, or the user's presence; wherein said processor is configured to initiate a wind-down routine upon detecting a sleep-readiness state, the wind-down routine comprising at least one of playing relaxing sounds or playing a respiration entrainment sound; wherein said processor is further configured to play noise-masking sounds upon detecting that the user has fallen asleep, the noise-masking sounds including a sound element matching a pitch, volume, or tempo of ambient noises detected by the sleep assistance device; and wherein said processor is configured to seamlessly transition between the sounds played during said wind-down routine and the noise-masking sounds by including in the noise-masking sounds, the same sounds used during the wind-down routine.

  • 12. A sleep assistance device comprising: a housing; a contactless biometric sensor for determining at least one of a heart rate, a respiratory rate, a presence of a user, or movement of the user; a processor; a memory; and a speaker; wherein said processor is configured to detect the user's sleep state by reading signals from said contactless biometric sensor based on at least one of a detected change in heartrate, body movement, respiration, or the user's presence; wherein said processor is configured to initiate a wind-down routine automatically upon detecting that the user is ready to sleep; wherein said wind-down routine comprises presenting the user with at least one of an end-of-day checklist, home status information, or information regarding a current sleep status of a third party; wherein said wind-down routine further comprises playing sounds or music for encouraging relaxation of the user and said processor is configured to select or arrange said sounds or music based, at least in part, on information received from said contactless biometric sensor or a user profile; wherein said processor is further configured to initiate a sound-masking routine upon detecting that the user has fallen asleep, the sound-masking routine including rendering sound-masking sounds including a sound element matching a pitch, volume, or tempo of ambient noises detected by the sleep assistance device; and wherein said processor is configured to seamlessly transition between the sounds played during said wind-down routine and the sound-masking routine by including in the sound-masking routine, the same sounds used in the wind-down routine.

  • 19. A sleep assistance device comprising: a housing;

  • 20. A sleep assistance device comprising: a housing; a contactless biometric sensor for determining at least one of a heart rate, a respiratory rate, a presence of a user, or movement of the user; a processor; a memory; and a speaker; wherein said processor is configured to detect the user's sleep state by reading signals from said contactless biometric sensor based on at least one of a detected change in heart rate, body movement, respiration, or the user's presence; wherein said processor is configured to initiate a wind-down routine upon detecting a sleep-readiness state, the wind-down routine comprising at least one of playing relaxing sounds or playing a respiration entrainment sound; wherein said processor is further configured to play noise-masking sounds upon detecting that the user has fallen asleep, the noise-masking sounds including a sound element matching a pitch, volume, or tempo of ambient noises detected by the sleep assistance device; wherein said processor is configured to seamlessly transition between the sounds played during said wind-down routine and the noise-masking sounds; and wherein said processor is further configured to execute a gentle wake-up subroutine that includes rendering a soundscape including the noise-masking sounds as well as sound elements associated with a morning timeframe.
