MedReleaf, wholly-owned subsidiary of Aurora Cannabis, has applied for a second Cannabis sativa cultivar plant patent (US Pub. No. 20200154623) named ‘MR2018003’.
New cannabis cultivar ‘MR2018003’ is the result of selection from a controlled-cross between the female Cannabis sativa variety `Pakistan Chitral Kush Landrace` and the male Cannabis sativa variety `UK Cheese`.
‘MR2018003’ is characterized as having 16% THC, 0% CBD, and significant resistance to microbial growth, as compared to progeny of the same lineage. The cannabis cultivar ‘Girl Scout Cookies’ is mentioned as the closest cannabis cultivar to the new ‘MR2018003’, but ‘MR2018003’ can be distinguished from ‘Girl Scout Cookies’ by its increased resistance to microbial growth. Plant diseases can cause losses in unimaginable numbers, so having plants with higher resistance to microbial growth is extremely desirable.
