Varden, an Australian startup, has replaced plastic with eco-friendly paper from plant waste. The solution, Paperseal, is directed towards moving packaging form single-use plastics to fully compostable materials. Varden received $2.2 million in funding from Horizon Ventures, who also previously backed Zoom, Impossible Foods and Spotify. Varden claims to have designed its own machine to make the paper suitable for 3D shapes.
Although Varden does not have any published US patent documents, it does have 4 Australian patent documents that appear to be similar to the Paperseal solution (2019902722, 2019900218, 2017326737, and 2016903695). With its goal of global expansion, it would be no surprise to see an increase in Varden filings in patent offices across the globe.
