1 Independent Claims

  • Claim 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the Cannabis plant is Cannabis sativa.
  • Claim 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the treatment is performed on a somatic tissue of the Cannabis plant.
  • Claim 5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the treatment comprises contacting the Cannabis plant or the part thereof with the amount of the dinitroaniline compound effective to induce polyploidy.
  • Claim 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the dinitroalinine compound is selected from: benfluralin, butralin, chlornidine, dinitramine, dipropalin, ethalfluralin, fluchloralin, isopropalin, methalpropalin, nitralin, oryzalin, pendimethalin, prodiamine, profluralin, and trifluralin.
  • Claim 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the dinitroaniline compound is 3,5-dinitro-N.sup.4,N.sup.4-dipropylsulfanilamide.
  • Claim 8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the dinitroalinine compound is oryzalin.
  • Claim 9. The method according to claim 1, wherein the amount of dinitroalinine compound effective to induce polyploidy is between about 5 .mu.M and about 200 .mu.M, about 10 .mu.M and about 200 .mu.M, about 50 .mu.M and about 200 .mu.M, about 5 .mu.M and about 100 .mu.M, about 10 .mu.M and about 100 .mu.M, about 20 .mu.M and about 150 .mu.M, about 20 .mu.M and about 60 .mu.M, about 50 .mu.M and about 150 .mu.M, or about 50 .mu.M and about 100 .mu.M.
  • Claim 10. The method according to claim 1, wherein the amount of dinitroalinine compound effective to induce polyploidy is about 5 .mu.M, about 10 .mu.M, about 15 .mu.M, about 20 .mu.M, about 25 .mu.M, about 30 .mu.M, about 35 .mu.M, about 40 .mu.M, about 45 .mu.M, about 50 .mu.M, about 55 .mu.M, about 60 .mu.M, about 65 .mu.M, about 70 .mu.M, about 75 .mu.M, about 80 .mu.M, about 85 .mu.M, about 90 .mu.M, about 95 .mu.M, about 100 .mu.M, about 105 .mu.M, about 110 .mu.M, about 115 .mu.M, about 120 .mu.M, about 125 .mu.M, about 130 .mu.M, about 135 .mu.M, about 140 .mu.M, or about 145 .mu.M
  • Claim 11. The method according to claim 1, wherein the amount of dinitroalinine compound effective to induce polyploidy is between about 5 .mu.M and about 200 .mu.M.
  • Claim 12. The method according to claim 1, wherein the amount of dinitroalinine compound effective to induce polyploidy is between about 20 .mu.M and about 150 .mu.M.
  • Claim 13. The method according to claim 1, wherein the amount of dinitroalinine compound effective to induce polyploidy is between about 20 .mu.M and about 60 .mu.M.
  • Claim 14. The method according to claim 1, wherein the treatment is performed for a time sufficient to induce polyploidy.
  • Claim 17. The method according to claim 1, wherein the treatment comprises contacting the Cannabis plant or the part thereof with the dinitoaniline compound.
  • Claim 19. The method according to claim 1, further comprising obtaining a plantlet by culturing the treated Cannabis plant or the treated part thereof in a shoot elongation media for a time sufficient to induce rooting.
  • Claim 20. The method according to claim 1, wherein the treated Cannabis plant or the treated part thereof is placed to a rooting hormone comprising medium for a time sufficient to induce rooting.
  • Claim 21. The method according to claim 1, wherein the polyploidy is tetraploid.
  • Claim 22. A polyploid Cannabis plant or part thereof obtained by the method as defined in claim 1.
  • Claim 23. A Cannabis plant cell obtained by the method as defined in claim 1, wherein the Cannabis cell is polyploid.
  • Claim 24. A Cannabis plant cell obtained by the method as defined in claim 1, wherein the Cannabis cell is tetraploid.
  • Claim 25. A Cannabis plant cell according to claim 1, wherein the Cannabis cell is a Cannabis sativa cell.
