Accenture believes blockchain technology will be instrumental in optimizing supply chains. In March of 2016, Accenture evidenced this belief by hiring Joseph Francis, an expert in digital supply chain transformation. Since hiring Francis, Accenture has filed a patent application to use blockchain technology to store tracking metric and geographic location data. The patent application published in March of 2019 represents Accenture’s dedication to the idea that blockchain can reduce common inefficiencies in supply chains through the use of “smart contracts” and a “common blockchain journal of data for all parties”.
