Pixellot Looks to Capitalize on New Market

Sports Analytics Patent Forecast®

February 4, 2021

Whether it’s your child, niece, nephew, or grandchild, missing a family member’s youth sports game is always a letdown. In a time filled with social distancing and reduced travel, this problem has been even more prevalent than ever before as youth sports leagues aim to reduce the number of fans in the stands. With all of the technology in this day and age, one would expect a better method of catching the action than the standard practice of having someone record it on their phone, but expensive production crews limit the broadcasting capabilities of youth sports leagues worldwide. However, Pixellot has started to take action to fill this gap and bring professional production quality to youth sports leagues without the hefty price tag.

With its recent release of Pixellot YOU and partnership with NBC Sports’ Sport Engine, the company looks to enter the market of youth sports by offering its tech platform to youth sports leagues for a reduced price. While this partnership will obviously be enjoyed by parents and grandparents everywhere upon its implementation, a deeper look into the patents backing this partnership explains why Pixellot was the first company to take on this endeavor.

Ever since its first patent application published back in 2016, Pixellot has stayed busy filing patent applications covering every aspect of sports video production, building to a total of 7 documents published between 2016 and 2021.The patent documents in its portfolio range from highlight curation to full-stack production covering all of the bases for a holistic solution to video production. This differs from strategies of other companies in the space, such as Thuuz Inc., whose patent documents mainly aim to protect a specific niche of the production process, such as highlight detection. This distinction could have been what led Pixellot to this partnership, opening thousands of new fields at all levels of play as targets for its new high-tech cameras.
