US DOT Secretary Elaine Chao announced a new $38 million pilot program to equip emergency response vehicles and key infrastructure with V2X. The program is aimed at avoiding traffic accidents and saving the lives of first responders rushing to aid in emergencies. These systems will use the 5.9 Gigahertz Safety Band of spectrum currently allocated by the FCC for use in transportation systems. Ford, State Farm and Hyundai currently have patents and patent applications specifically directed to emergency situations; however, other patent applications are relevant.
