Headquartered in Toyota, Japan, Toyota Motor is the largest automotive manufacturer. Toyota has patents for vehicle control, collision prevention, and other connected vehicle technology, but as of 2019, Toyota has abandoned its plan to install the technology in its vehicles. The company cited a lack of commitment within the automotive industry to support the required 5.9 GHz spectrum band for communication. In October 2020, Toyota announced it would collaborate with THEA (the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority) to deploy vehicles with connected vehicle technology pre-installed as part of a pilot program in Tampa Bay.
