The arms race is slowly turning quantum. The Trump administration wants to spend $25 million on a national “Quantum Internet,” an unhackable network. The United States is behind China in its development of this technology. China unveiled a dedicated quantum communication network between Beijing and Shanghai in 2017 and has also tested quantum encryption techniques via satellite. Safe communication is important and quantum communication will be the only way to ensure confidentiality when quantum computing, capable of hacking existing encryption methods, comes online.
