Schneider Electric's updated Galaxy VS Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is now the highest density UPS of its kind, which the company claims makes it ideal for edge computing in small to medium-sized facilities. The battery includes "smart" functionalities via self-configuring modules that increase efficiency and design life.
In 2019, Schneider was issued a patent on monitoring and controlling UPS charge levels to reduce energy costs. The updated product expands on Schneider's existing infrastructure designed specifically for edge computing with a smaller footprint. Earlier this year, Schneider partnered with Cisco, which is considered one of the leading companies in edge computing and which has a number of patents on a specific type of edge architecture known as fog computing. The new hardware signifies a further push from Schneider into the market for edge computing infrastructure.
