Currently the third largest corporate owner in the edge computing sector, Intel is constantly reinvesting to develop their portfolio as a major market player.
Intel has also invested in non-traditional opportunities to utilize edge technologies. This week, they announced a partnership with the University of Pennsylvania to enable 29 healthcare and medical institutions around the world to train AI models to detect brain tumors early, a partnership that will utilize edge computing.
This week, Intel had another patent application published which teaches offloading and onloading workloads in an edge environment. The application describes a telemetry controller to determine that a workload is to be offloaded from a first resource to a second resource of a platform and a scheduler to determine an instance of the workload that is compatible with the second resource and schedule the workload to continue execution based on an exchange of a workload state from the first resource to the second resource. All in all, the invention aims to improve to improve bandwidth limitations on the edge.
