FibriCheck, a Belgium-based heart rhythm app maker, has announced a smartwatch app that monitors a user's heart rhythm during their sleep. It is the first medical CE- and FDA-certified app that enables regular and long-term heart rhythm screening. The app automatically detects both silent and intermittent atrial fibrillation. Furthermore, the app is compatible with any phone or wearable product that uses photoplethysmography sensors. The Apple Watch currently uses photoplethysmography sensors so it is compatible with the FibriCheck app.
Typically, atrial fibrillation is detected using expensive medical examinations. The app improves the feasibility of testing of atrial fibrillation, thereby improving the detection rate of heart rhythm disorders. The early detection and diagnosis of heart rhythm irregularities should reduce the number of atrial fibrillation strokes.
