DreamJay, creator of established sleep tracking app Nightly, recently filed their first patent application. Nightly has been available in the App Store and Google Play Store since 2017, and has tens of thousands of downloads. However, in the busy sleep tracking app sector, it has not received the awareness that other apps such as Sleep Cycle and Slumber have.
Nightly claims it uses artificial intelligence to detect movement in the night and provide an audio response to help the user get an uninterrupted night of sleep. It also uses audio and visual elements to help the user fall asleep in the first place. After a $2.3 million Series A round in 2017, DreamJay took Nightly to clinical trial. This study has been completed, but results have not yet been reported.
This is also the first patent DreamJay has applied for, in the sleep sector or not. Interestingly, it makes no reference to artificial intelligence, which the company claims to be the defining component of the app. As such, if they plan to scale or branch out into other wellness areas, it is expected that further filings regarding artificial intelligence will be seen.
