Walmart has been using robots in brick-and-mortar stores since 2017. However, in November 2020 Walmart ended its long-standing contract with Bossa Nova, which handled robotics development for the retail giant. It is speculated that decrease in in-store shopping due to the COVID-19 pandemic affected development given that Walmart focused on using its robots in stores rather than in warehouses.
