Generally, there are two or three patent documents published or issued every week for the biodegradable packaging sector. However, this week there were 8 documents published or issued! This is a strong indicator that the biodegradable packaging industry is still going strong during the pandemic and that competitors are positioning themselves for the future.

Frosta Aktiengellschaft, a German company, had a patent application (US Patent Publication No. 20200290321) published for a compostable and environmentally friendly packaging for a frozen product. Frosta typically sells in Europe so could this patent filing be a sign of a global expansion?
TIPA had two patent applications (US Patent Publication Nos. 20200290327 and 20200290328) published for a biodegradable sheet.
Smart Planet, a materials engineering and intellectual property company specializing in innovative composition materials, had a patent application (US Patent Publication No. 20200291579) directed towards composite structures for packaging articles.
Novamont, the sector leading patent document holder, had two patents (US Patent Nos. 10774214 and 10774213) directed towards polymer compositions for the manufacture of thermoformed articles issue this week.
