Ever since the string of now famous Life Alert® commercials began, the image of an elderly person alone and in need of medical assistance has been carved into the public conscience. Frequently, those with preexisting heart conditions are subject to a far greater risk of death, especially when others aren't around to call an ambulance. However, Medtronic may have the answer. On November 12th, five - yes, five - applications (U.S. Patent Pub. Nos. 20200352466, 20200353271, 20200357517, 20200357518, and 20200357519) by Medtronic were published, all about devices and methods to detect cardiac arrhythmias using machine learning. With this wave of applications, Medtronic's first ones directed to arrhythmias, the total number of documents in the Cardiac Arrhythmia subcategory has jumped from 15 to 20. That is what an entrance looks like.
Medtronic's new inventions appear to correspond to its new line of Cobalt™ And Crome™ lines of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, or ICDs. These new ICDs are able to automatically detect abnormal heart rhythms, such as atrial fibrillation, and provide defibrillation action in order to prevent the arrhythmia from developing into a more lethal condition, such as cardiac arrest. Now, individuals with preexisting heart conditions can sit a little more comfortably at home. With Medtronic's new filings and the corresponding new products, it will be the company to beat in the area of homecare defibrillation.
