Soundwave Hearing, a hearing aid startup out of Glendale, Illinois, hopes to use artificial intelligence to quickly customize hearing aid settings to a user. The company's main goal is to allow anyone to program their own hearing devices with a simple app. Similar to listening for tones during a hearing test, the company's second patent application uses patient feedback during use of the hearing aids to generate an audiogram that helps program the hearing aids. Soundwave hops to being selling their technology this year. As products like Apple's Airpods become more common, hearing aids get smarter, and the stigma around them is decreased as a result, technologies such as this will be important in improving accessibility of hearing devices to a variety of populations.
