Some startups clearly understand the value of patents. UBiome, a recent startup in the microbiome space, has filed 105 applications from January 2015 through September 2018. The majority of these applications use microbiome information to diagnose and treat specific conditions such as headaches, allergies, skin conditions, sleep, cardiovascular, autoimmune, neurological, etc.
