Dole plans to reduce the use of raw, fossil-based plastics by increasing more recycled content in their current packaging and exploring the use of upcycled materials like pineapple skin or banana leaves from their farms, which has the potential to create a circular ecosystem within their operations. 

Later this year, Dole is launching the Sunshine for All™ investment fund to support strategic partnerships and investments to meet its environmental and waste goals. The plan for the first year is to work with innovators, start-ups, and progressive partners in key areas such as materiality, advisory, and implementation of crucial practices to meet Dole's goal.  Dole is already partnering with Solidaridad, Forum of Future, Future Food Institute, and Rocana. 

Dole does not have any patent documents in the biodegradable packaging sector, however, the research and development supporting the major goals of Sunshine for All™  will most likely produce new innovative systems, methods, and products.
