Finnish multinational telecommunications company Nokia has announced it will be adding 5G and edge computing capabilities to its Worldwide IoT Network Grid (WING) service. Having recently invested in IP relating to edge computing, this announcement doesn't come as a surprise. Nokia has an issued patent which teaches software defined networking for edge nodes.
Nokia believes this upgrade will enable its operators to capture the 5G, IoT, and edge market without having to invest in new global infrastructure. Nokia will offer a pay-as-you-go model with WING to enable scaling while maintaining ultra-low latency and high security.
